The "wearing of the Green," or the Prosecuted Funeral Procession

''Wearing of the Green,'' or The Prosecuted Funeral Procession, written by A. M. Sullivan in 1868, is a historical narrative detailing the national grief in Ireland following the executions of three Irish Fenians—Allen, Larkin, and O'Brien—in 1867. The book describes the public mourning and protest that ensued, particularly through ceremonial funeral processions in cities like Cork and Dublin. Sullivan's work highlights the intertwining of religion, nationalism, and collective memory, illustrating how these events galvanized the Irish people's quest for justice and remembrance amidst political oppression.
