The Theology of Holiness

Written in the late nineteenth century by a minister deeply embedded in the holiness movement, this book presents a passionate argument for what was then a provocative proposition: that complete sanctification is not merely an ideal to be hoped for after death, but a genuine possibility to be pursued and attained in this lifetime. Dougan Clark writes with the urgency of someone who believes the church has grown dangerously comfortable with spiritual mediocrity, dismissing the call to holiness as unnecessary or even fanatical. He tackles head-on the indifference and disdain that many Christians show toward entire sanctification, arguing that without it, the Christian life remains fundamentally incomplete. This is not abstract theology but practical divinity - a call to radical transformation through divine grace. For readers interested in the history of American religious thought, the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition, or their own spiritual formation, Clark's passionate advocacy offers both historical insight and contemporary challenge.
