the Story of My Life": (being Reminiscences of Sixty Years' Public Service in Canada.)

This is the extraordinary memoir of the man who built Canada's public school system. Egerton Ryerson arrived in colonial Upper Canada as the son of a Methodist farmer and left as one of the most influential educators in British North American history. His sixty-year chronicle traces a remarkable arc: the rebellious son who defied his father to pursue ministry, the young preacher whose sermons drew thousands, and the relentless reformer who convinced a skeptical legislature that education should be free, universal, and compulsory. Beyond education, Ryerson recounts his controversial stand against capital punishment, his defense of civil liberties during turbulent political times, and his battles with religious orthodoxy. Written in vigorous Victorian prose with a scholar's precision and a preacher's conviction, this memoir offers an unparalleled window into nineteenth-century Canadian society, the emergence of public institutions, and the personal costs of ambitious reform. It is both a historical document and a testament to one man's faith that knowledge could transform a nation.
