The Story of a Dark Plot; Or, Tyranny on the Frontier, published in 1898 by A.L.O.C., is a historical narrative centered on W.W. Smith, a temperance advocate and agent for the Canadian Pacific Railway. The book details Smith's struggles against the liquor industry in Brome County, Quebec, highlighting the violent backlash he faces while enforcing the Scott Act. This account examines themes of social justice and the personal risks reformers encounter in their fight against intemperance, culminating in a brutal assault that sparks public outrage and an investigation into the conspiracy against him.
