The Siouan Indians

The Siouan Indians, published in 1897 by W J McGee, is a detailed scientific exploration of the Siouan stock of Native Americans. The work examines various tribes, including the Dakota, Mandan, and Winnebago, focusing on their language, culture, societal organization, and history. McGee provides insights into their beliefs, arts, and social structures, while also discussing their historical context and interactions with neighboring tribes, particularly in relation to European contact. This publication serves as a foundational text for understanding the Siouan peoples and their significance in Native American history.
