The Sabbath: A Paper Read at the Conference of the Evangelical Alliance, Held at Geneva, September 2, 1861, by Andrew Thomson is a theological exploration of Sabbath observance within the Scottish Christian community. Written in 1861, the paper emphasizes the importance of a divinely appointed day of rest and worship, arguing against the rise of secular activities on this holy day. Thomson discusses the spiritual and communal benefits of Sabbath practices, advocating for a return to its religious significance to uphold moral values in society. This work reflects the deep-rooted Scottish conviction regarding the Sabbath as essential for spiritual well-being.
