The Philistine: A Periodical of Protest (vol. I, No. 1, June 1895)

The Philistine: A Periodical of Protest, first published in June 1895, is a collection of essays, poems, and discussions reflecting late 19th-century philosophical and social ideas. This inaugural issue critiques societal values and celebrates individual genius, framing Philistinism as both a derogatory term for the unrefined and an aspirational identity for those challenging the status quo. The publication advocates for intellectual and artistic integrity, encouraging deeper engagement with ideas that oppose conventional norms.
