History - American, Plays/Films/Dramas, Religion/Spirituality
Written in the early 20th century, 'The Mormons and the Theatre' by John S. Lindsay examines the intersection of Mormon culture and theatrical practices in Utah. It highlights the role of figures like Brigham Young in promoting theater within a community often seen as conservative. The book features anecdotes about early actors, including Thomas A. Lyne, and discusses how theatrical expression became significant in the sociocultural landscape of the Latter Day Saints. This historical account reveals a unique aspect of religious life intertwined with the performing arts.
