The Miraculous Medal: Its Origin, History, Circulation, Results

In 1830, in a quiet convent in Paris, a young nun named Catherine Labouré received visions that would ignite one of the most enduring devotional objects in Catholic history. Jean-Marie Aladel, the priest who knew Catherine personally and recorded her account, tells the story of how the Blessed Virgin appeared to her not once but twice, instructing her to have a medal struck that would become a symbol of hope for millions. The book traces Catherine's humble origins in rural France through her admission to the Daughters of Charity, her spiritual awakening, and the divine communications that led to the medal's creation. Aladel documents the medal's rapid spread across Catholic communities, the claimed miracles and conversions attributed to it, and the deepening devotion to Mary it inspired. This book endures because it offers not just a historical account but a window into how ordinary faith can produce extraordinary grace, written by someone who heard the story directly from the source.
