The Minstrel: A Collection of Poems

In the sweltering heat of a London summer, three daughters turn their eyes toward green fields and convince their reluctant father to grant them passage to the countryside. This is the opening movement of Amott's tender, observant collection, where domestic intimacy meets poetic longing. The poems move through love, nature, and the complex bonds of family with a sensitivity that feels both of its era and startlingly modern. Amott captures the particular ache of youthful restlessness, the way light falls differently in memory, the small tensions and deep affection between parents and children. The verses possess a quiet power. They do not announce themselves but accumulate like summer heat, leaving the reader warmed and unexpectedly moved. For readers who cherish Victorian poetry's gift for rendering the emotional texture of ordinary life, who find poetry in the negotiation between duty and desire, The Minstrel offers itself as a patient, rewarding companion.
