The Mikirs

The Mikirs, published in 1908 by Edward Stack, is an ethnographic study of the Mikir people, an Indigenous group in Assam, India. The book explores their customs, culture, language, and social structure, drawing from Stack's experiences during the British colonial period. It highlights his collaboration with a local convert, Sardoka, to document the Mikir language and folk tales, aiming to preserve their cultural heritage. The work was compiled posthumously by Sir Charles Lyall after Stack's untimely death at sea, making it a significant contribution to the understanding of the Mikir community.
