The Little Treasure of Prayers: Being a Translation of the Epitome from the German Larger "Treasure of Prayers" ["Gebets-schatz"] of the Evangelical Lutheran Church

This collection transports readers into the heart of 19th-century Lutheran devotion. Originally compiled in German as the 'Gebets-schatz' (Treasure of Prayers), then translated for English-speaking congregations in 1888, it offers an intimate window into how believers once framed their entire lives through prayer. The prayers span the full spectrum of human experience: morning gratitude and evening reflections, pleas for healing and expressions of thanks, supplications before daily labor and reverent meditations for church attendance. Each one reveals a faith that sought to weave sacred presence into every moment, asking for divine protection, forgiveness, and strength to walk according to God's will. For historians of religion, those drawn to traditional devotional practice, or anyone curious about how previous generations spoke to the divine, this little treasury preserves a voice from a vanished world where prayer structured the day, the week, and the soul.
