The Journal of Countess Françoise Krasinska, Great Grandmother of Victor Emmanuel

A sixteen-year-old countess picks up her pen in a Polish castle and begins documenting her life. What starts as a young girl's record of family heritage and social expectations becomes something far richer: an intimate portrait of noble life on the eve of upheaval. Françoise Krasinska writes of ancestors and grandeur, of lessons and lawn parties, of the glittering (and sometimes suffocating) world of the Polish szlachta. But beneath the ceremony, something timeless emerges, the anxious excitement of youth, the weight of lineage, the small terrors and larger thrills of stepping into society. She writes at a moment of historical transition, when Poland itself faced uncertain futures, yet her concerns remain achingly personal. Who will she become? What will be expected of her? What does she actually want? This is not merely a period piece. It is a window into the mind of a thoughtful young woman finding her way in a world that has already written her story for her. Perfect for readers who treasure private writings, women's histories, and the intimate details of noble life before the modern age.
