The House with Sixty Closets: A Christmas Story for Young Folks and Old Children

What child wouldn't dream of a house with sixty closets? Frank Samuel Child built this enchanting Victorian tale around exactly that premise, but the real magic lies in why those closets exist. The benevolent Judge and his wife filled their home with hidden doors not from hoarding, but from an overflowing generosity that couldn't help but keep giving - each closet waiting to welcome someone in need. When a minister's family moves into the old parsonage, their children become detectives of wonder, unraveling the house's secrets as Christmas approaches. On the most magical night of the year, the ghosts of the Judge and his wife step down from their portraits to join the festivities, and the true purpose of the sixty closets is revealed at last. This is inheritance as gift, the past reaching forward to touch the present with a gentle hand. Child writes with the warm certainty that homes are built not from wood and stone but from kindness passed down through generations. A perfect fireside read for anyone who believes the best ghost stories are the ones that make you believe in goodness.
