The History of Tom Thumb and Other Stories.

He was no bigger than his father's thumb, but Tom Thumb made up for his tiny stature with fierce wit and boundless daring. Born to a ploughman and his wife who had long prayed for a child, Tom enters a world far too large for him and survives it through sheer cleverness. He is swallowed by a fish, amuse King Arthur's court, outsmart giants, and narrowly escape every trap set by cats, mice, and careless humans. Each misadventure builds on the next, the humor arising from the absurdity of a boy so small navigating such enormous dangers. Yet the tale carries an unexpected sting: Tom's life ends as abruptly as it began, taken by a spider, and the king himself mourns this minute hero. The fairy tale os unapologetically dark in its final act, delivering tragedy where we expect triumph. This is the original Tom Thumb, stripped of modern softening, and it retains the raw charm and stark lessons of oral tradition.
