The History of Sir Richard Whittington

The History of Sir Richard Whittington, first published in 1770, is a historical account that intertwines the life of Sir Richard Whittington with the folklore surrounding him, particularly the tale of 'Whittington and His Cat.' The narrative chronicles Whittington's rise from poverty to becoming the Lord Mayor of London three times, while also addressing the myths and inaccuracies that have developed over time. This work provides insights into his charitable contributions and civic achievements, contrasting them with the embellished legends that often overshadow his true legacy.
