The Fundamental Doctrines of the Christian Faith

R.A. Torrey wrote this in 1918, but the hunger it addresses is timeless: why do so many Christians struggle to articulate what they believe? Torrey, the evangelist who helped found the Bible Institute of Los Angeles and worked alongside Dwight L. Moody, saw this confusion firsthand when his Los Angeles congregation exploded in size. Many new members arrived eager for faith but lacked a working knowledge of its foundations. So Torrey did what great pastors do. He taught them, systematically, clearly, sermon by sermon, building from the Bible's own divine inspiration toward the great doctrinal pillars of Christianity. This book is that teaching, preserved. Torrey believed the church's sickness was not doubt but vagueness, and his remedy was rigorous, accessible explanation. He begins where all sound theology must begin: with the Word itself, establishing Scripture's authority before venturing into the doctrines that flow from it. This is not dry scholasticism. It is passionate, pastoral instruction for anyone who has been asked, "What do you actually believe?" and found themselves fumbling for an answer. A century later, the book still provides that answer.
