The Fox and the Geese; and the Wonderful History of Henny-Penny

Two darkly delicious cautionary tales from the golden age of children's storytelling. In 'The Fox and the Geese,' a mother goose watches helplessly as her daughters ignore her warnings about the cunning fox lurking beyond the pond. Two sisters pay the ultimate price for their foolishness before the third, the clever Ganderee, learns to outthink the predator rather than outrun him. Then comes 'Henny-Penny,' whose panic over a falling acorn sets off a chain of comedic catastrophe: one by one, her gullible friends join her mission to tell the king the sky is falling, and one by one, they vanish into Mr. Fox's lair. These are not the sanitized fables of modern children's rooms. Animals die. Fear is real. But so is resilience, and so is the quiet triumph of the wise over the wicked. Originally published in the late 19th century, these stories whisper across generations, reminding us that the world has always been dangerous for the careless, and that listening to wise counsel might just save your neck.
