The Flower Basket: A Fairy Tale

In an old castle three orphaned siblings live in the shadow of their parents' pride, sheltered from the world until death claims them. Then comes the fairy Felicia, bearing gifts of magical flowers: each bloom a road maps to a different life. Adrian reaches for wealth. Amaranthé chooses beauty. The fairy warns them, but they do not listen. What follows is a descent as certain as gravity: wealth breeds greed until the gold turns to ash, beauty becomes a prison of vanity until the mirror shows only age. The gifts wane. The fortunes collapse. And from the wreckage, another fairy emerges: Benigna, who does not offer wonders but wisdom. Through her guidance, the siblings learn what the flowers could never teach: that true happiness is not a thing to be wished for, but a character to be cultivated. This is the oldest kind of fairy tale, the kind that knows children can handle hard truths about human nature, about the perilous gap between what we want and what we need.
