The Fireless Locomotive

The Fireless Locomotive, written in the early 1960s by an anonymous author, provides a historical account of fireless locomotives, with a focus on the 'Rubicon,' a steam-storage locomotive used by the National Cash Register Company in Dayton, Ohio, around the turn of the 20th century. The book discusses the development and operational benefits of fireless locomotives in industrial environments, particularly their ability to reduce smoke and improve factory conditions. This work is notable for its detailed exploration of a unique aspect of steam locomotive history.
