The Eulogies of Howard: A Vision

The Eulogies of Howard: A Vision, written by William Hayley in the late 18th century, is a philosophical and poetic tribute to John Howard, a notable philanthropist recognized for his humanitarian efforts, particularly in prison reform. The narrative unfolds as a vision experienced by Hayley after discussing Howard's character with a friend, leading him to a celestial realm where various figures honor Howard's contributions to justice and compassion. This work emphasizes the moral duty of society to recognize and emulate individuals dedicated to alleviating human suffering and serves as both a eulogy and a call to action for continued benevolence.
