The Duquesne Christmas Mystery

A luminous Christmas pageant from 1916 that transforms the Nativity into breathtaking theatrical spectacle. The drama opens with ancient prophets Isaiah, Micah, and Hosea speaking across centuries, their voices carrying the weight of foretold redemption. Meanwhile, three Magi journey eastward, their camels bearing gifts toward a star that pulls them through dangerous terrain and into the court of the suspicious King Herod, whose malevolence crackles through every scene. Meanwhile, shepherds on Judean hillsides receive a heavenly announcement from Gabriel himself, their humble lives suddenly intertwined with cosmic significance. These parallel threads converge in Bethlehem, where the infant Jesus lies in a manger, visited first by shepherds and then by kings bearing gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The play reaches its luminous climax as the people of the city gather around a lit Christmas tree, their diverse voices joining in celebration. This is not merely a retelling but a vision of unity and hope, staged with the grandeur of early 20th-century American community theater.
