The Cretan Insurrection of 1866-7-8

The Cretan Insurrection of 1866-7-8, written by William James Stillman and first published in 1874, is a historical account of the revolt against Ottoman rule in Crete. Drawing from his experiences as the U.S. Consul in Crete, Stillman provides insights into the socio-political dynamics and cultural heritage of the Cretan people during this tumultuous period. The book details the events leading up to the insurrection, including the significant Assembly at Omalo, which highlighted the Cretans' aspirations for autonomy amidst external political influences and oppression.
