The Child's Rainy Day Book

Every parent knows the sound: that heavy sigh from the window, the dreaded question "What shall I do?" when the rain pours outside and the walls begin to close in. First published in the early twentieth century, The Child's Rainy Day Book offers a time-tested answer: make something with your hands. Mary White guides young creators through a delightful catalog of paper theaters, doll furniture, simple games, and toys all constructed from everyday materials found around the home. She makes a persuasive case that a child\'s own creation\u2014however humble\u2014outshines any commercial toy, becoming a treasured possession rather than forgotten plaything. The projects here require nothing more than paper, scissors, scraps of cloth, cardboard, and the infinite resource of a child's imagination. There is something achingly sweet about this vision of childhood: children gathered around a table, quietly absorbed in making something with their own hands while the rain taps at the glass. This book endures not as a museum piece but as a usable artifact, offering parents and children a chance to step outside the noise of modern life and into the quiet pleasure of making something together.
