A collection of poems curated specifically for young readers, written in the early 20th century. This compilation showcases a variety of poetic works aimed at introducing children to the joys of poetry, providing them with lyrical and imaginative verses that spark curiosity and creativity. At the start of the collection, Grahame sets the stage with a thoughtful preface, addressing the challenges of selecting suitable poetry for children. He expresses his intention to create an inviting entry point into the world of poetry, filled with light and joy, while avoiding themes that might be too heavy or complex. The opening portion introduces the content structure—starting with rhymes and jingles for the very youngest, showcasing simple, melodic, and engaging poetry that delights in everyday experiences and the natural world, thus encouraging children to appreciate the beauty of language and imagination.
