The Bombardment of Reims

Published in 1917, 'The Bombardment of Reims' by Barr Ferree provides a historical account of the relentless artillery and aerial attacks on the city of Reims and its iconic cathedral during World War I, from September 1914 to September 1917. The book chronicles the extensive destruction and its profound impact on the local population, highlighting the cultural significance of the cathedral as it faced near annihilation. Ferree draws on local newspaper reports and personal accounts to illustrate the disconnect between the experiences of the besieged residents and the limited media coverage of their plight, offering a detailed and sobering narrative of the horrors endured during this significant conflict.
