The Bible, King James Version, Book 55: 2 Timothy

2 Timothy is Paul's final letter, written from a Roman prison cell around 67 AD. The aging apostle, knowing death approaches, writes to Timothy, his spiritual son and fellow worker, with an urgency that cuts through centuries. Paul urges the young pastor to remain faithful amid hardship, to guard the sound doctrine he has inherited, and to remember the sincere faith modeled by his mother and grandmother. The letter pulses with a haunting loneliness: Paul has been abandoned by friends, left to face execution alone. Yet his tone is not despairing but defiant. He writes of suffering leading to glory, of endurance shaping character, of Scripture as God-breathed and profitable for teaching. The famous charge to "preach the word" echoes through two millennia. This is the most personal of Paul's letters, stripped of theological argumentation, full of raw affection and practical counsel. It endures because every generation faces the same question Paul posed to Timothy: will you remain faithful when it costs you everything?
