The Bible, Douay-Rheims, Book 54: 2 Corinthians: The Challoner Revision

Among the most emotionally raw documents in the New Testament, Paul's Second Letter to the Corinthians reveals a apostle not as a distant theologian but as a wounded shepherd defending his integrity and love against detractors. Written around 55-56 AD, this epistle pulses with Paul's anguish over a church he planted but now finds itself seduced by false teachers questioning his authority. He writes of tears, fears, and moments of despair alongside triumphant declarations of God's grace made perfect in human weakness. The letter alternates between fierce defense of his apostleship and tender expressions of affection, culminating in a passionate appeal for the Corinthians to generosity toward the impoverished Jerusalem church. Nearly two millennia later, this remains the most intimate window into the struggles of early Christian leadership and the painful, beautiful work of reconciliation between a spiritual father and his wayward children.
