The Bible, Douay-Rheims, Book 36: Abdias: The Challoner Revision

''The Bible, Douay-Rheims, Book 36: Abdias'' is a religious text that is part of the larger anthology known as the Holy Bible, translated from the Latin Vulgate. This particular book, written in the early modern period, contains the prophetic writings attributed to Abdias (Obadiah). It addresses themes of divine judgment, pride, and the fate of Edom in relation to Israel, encapsulating a powerful vision of retribution and salvation in a concise manner. The prophecy of Abdias focuses on the impending destruction of Edom due to their pride and their wrongs against Jacob (Israel). The text conveys a strong message of accountability, warning Edom for its arrogance and betrayal during the time when Jerusalem fell to foreign invaders. Despite being the shortest prophetic book in the Bible, Abdias delivers a powerful indictment of Edom and a promise of salvation for Israel, culminating in a vision of restoration where the house of Jacob prevails. The book serves as a reflection on the consequences of actions against one’s brethren and the ultimate sovereignty of God over nations.
