The Anti-Slavery Crusade: A Chronicle of the Gathering Storm

The Anti-Slavery Crusade: A Chronicle of the Gathering Storm, written by Jesse Macy in the early 20th century, provides a historical account of the anti-slavery movement in the United States leading up to the Civil War. It explores the ideological battles surrounding slavery, highlighting key figures such as Benjamin Lundy and William Lloyd Garrison, and the philosophical underpinnings of liberty versus despotism. Macy emphasizes the deep historical roots of slavery and its persistent opposition, setting the stage for understanding the moral and political debates that shaped American society and culminated in the Emancipation Proclamation.
