The Animals' Rebellion

What happens when the jungle's most fearsome creatures decide they've had enough of royal rule? This delightfully mischievous 1890 picture book answers that question with verse so bouncy and bright that children will demand it be read again and again. The Tiger, tired of the Lion's crown, rallies the elephant, the bear, the monkey, and the rest into a wonderfully chaotic rebellion. They march with banners flying and trumpets blaring, certain they'll topple the king and claim the throne for themselves. But as the battles begin, the proud insurgents discover that rebellion is far easier to imagine than to execute and that some kings are harder to unseat than they appear. G. H. Thompson's charming illustrations bring the animal court to vivid life, from the pompous Lion on his throne to the scheming Tiger sharpening his claws. The rhymes click like a metronome, perfect for reading aloud at bedtime or classroom story time. Nearly 135 years old, this small gem endures because it knows exactly what children want: a tale where the underdogs dream big, cause delightful trouble, and learn that courage and loyalty matter more than crown.
