The American Jew as Patriot, Soldier and Citizen

Published in 1895 at a moment when anti-Semitism was gaining troubling momentum in America, Simon Wolf's meticulously researched volume serves as both historical record and passionate defense. Wolf gathered military rolls, pension documents, personal testimonies, and official correspondence to prove what he knew in his bones: that Jewish Americans had bled for their country since its very founding. From the Revolutionary War's Jewish minutemen through the Civil War's regiments, Wolf documents names, ranks, sacrifices. But this is more than a compilation of facts. It's a deeply personal argument for belonging, written by a man who understood that his community's safety depended on demonstrating their worth to a nation all too willing to doubt it. The book pulses with urgency and wounded pride. For anyone interested in American Jewish history, the evolution of American patriotism, or the long struggle to prove loyalty in the face of suspicion, this volume remains a vital window into a pivotal era.
