
In the untamed Iowa prairies, the staunchly Presbyterian Scottish immigrant community of the McLaughlins faces an internal crisis when Wully returns from the Civil War. He finds his beloved Chirstie a shadow of her former self, traumatized and withdrawn. As Wully endeavors to uncover the truth of what befell her in his absence, he navigates the delicate balance between his family's rigid moral code, his personal sense of justice, and the desire to protect Chirstie from the harsh judgment of their insular, religious community.
