Talitha: Evangelho Em Tres Actos

A fictional work, likely a play, written in the early 20th century. Set in a small village in the Tras-os-Montes region of Portugal, the story revolves around the central character, Talitha, a blind young woman, and the interactions of various residents including a priest, a doctor, and Talitha's sister. The narrative appears to explore themes of faith, love, and personal sacrifice against the backdrop of hope and despair. At the start of the play, we are introduced to Talitha and her relationships with the other characters, particularly the village priest, João Fulgencio, and the doctor, Ruy de ornellas. The dialogue reveals their struggles and hopes, with discussions about faith in God and the power of love. Talitha expresses her longing for vision and her willingness to dedicate her life to God if she is ever granted sight again. Ruy, who has developed feelings for Talitha, wishes to save her from despair and urges her to believe in the possibility of regaining her sight. The initial scenes set the stage for a poignant exploration of inner conflict and moral dilemmas as Talitha faces the intersection of her faith, her newfound love, and her past promises.
