Strophes of Omar Khayyám
Published in 1888, 'Strophes of Omar Khayyám' is a collection of 152 quatrains translated by John Leslie Garner, one of the earliest American versions of Khayyám's work. The collection is divided into eleven books and features themes of wine, love, and the inevitability of death, reflecting a gentle melancholy. Garner's translation contrasts with Edward Fitzgerald's more famous version, offering a perspective that aligns with contemporary interpretations of Khayyám's poetry. The work highlights the universal questions of human existence, emphasizing the poet's struggle with life's transient nature.
