String of Pearls
The String of Pearls, published in 1846, is a serialized story that introduces the infamous character Sweeney Todd. This early murder mystery, first appearing in The People's Periodical and Family Library, portrays Todd as a wholly villainous figure, lacking any redeeming qualities. The narrative follows the uncovering of his heinous deeds and his eventual downfall, blending elements of romance and horror. Its unique portrayal of a perfect villain has influenced numerous adaptations in theater and film.
