Stevensoniana: Being a Reprint of Various Literary and Pictorial Miscellany Associated with Robert Louis Stevenson, the Man and His Work

Here is Stevenson as his contemporaries knew him: frail, brilliant, endlessly traveling in search of health, yet producing some of the most beloved adventure and horror fiction in the English language. This turn-of-the-century anthology gathers the scattered fragments of his literary legacy - biographical sketches from friends who knew him in Edinburgh and Bournemouth, tributes from fellow writers, excerpts from his letters, and illustrations that capture the man behind the myth. We see Stevenson the tuberculosis patient who turned his suffering into literature, the Scottish boy who dreamed of pirates and strange diseases, the wanderer who finally found peace in the South Seas. The book preserves not just critical assessments of Treasure Island and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, but something rarer: the warm, personal testimony of those who loved him. For readers who have ever wanted to step back into the Victorian literary world and meet a great author through the eyes of his friends, this collection is an intimate time capsule.
