Socialism and the Social Movement in the 19th Century
Socialism and the Social Movement in the 19th Century
Translated by Anson Phelps Atterbury
Written in the late 19th century by Werner Sombart, 'Socialism and the Social Movement in the 19th Century' offers a thorough analysis of socialism's rise as a significant social movement. The book examines the historical roots, key theorists, and socio-economic conditions that contributed to socialism's development, emphasizing the role of the proletariat in advocating for social reform. Sombart argues that modern social movements are closely linked to capitalism, suggesting that the existence of the proletariat is a direct result of capitalist production methods. This work is notable for its critical exploration of the interplay between social classes and economic systems.
