Smoky the Cowhorse

Will James's Newbery-winning classic plunges us into the untamed American West, chronicling the life of Smoky, a wild mustang whose spirit embodies the freedom of the open range. From his birth amidst the sagebrush and wind, we follow Smoky's journey through the perils of the wilderness—predators, blizzards, and the relentless march of civilization—until he's eventually gentled by Clint, a cowboy who recognizes a kindred soul in the intelligent, fiery horse. Their bond forms the heart of a story that's as much about the making of a magnificent cowhorse as it is about the vanishing frontier.
