Six giants and a griffin, and other stories

These are the stories that make childhood feel like a door opening into wonder. Otis writes with the kind of gentle mischief that lets young readers believe, for a few precious hours, that giants might actually live over the next hill and griffins might circle above the castle on a Tuesday afternoon. The collection gathers tales where children encounter the fantastical not with terror but with that most powerful of childhood qualities: curiosity. Six giants and a griffin become neighbors, perhaps even friends. Adventures unfold in fields and forests where the monstrous and the magical turn out to be surprisingly kind. Each story carries its quiet lesson about bravery or kindness, delivered not as lecture but as story magic. What makes this collection endure is its fundamental respect for young imaginations. It doesn't condescend or warn excessively. It simply opens a door and says: here is a world where small children meet enormous things, and both come out transformed.
