Sanctification

This 1902 treatise captures a moment when millions of American Christians were grappling with what it truly meant to be "sanctified" - set apart, made holy, filled with divine presence. J.W. Byers builds his argument with careful biblical scholarship, tracing how the doctrine shifted from Old Testament ritual separation to the New Testament's revolutionary promise of inner transformation through Christ's sacrifice. His voice carries the fervent conviction of the holiness movement, that dynamic 19th-century religious revival that insisted believers could experience a second work of grace, a decisive moment of consecration that would fundamentally alter their relationship with God. For modern readers unfamiliar with this tradition, the theological framework may feel foreign, yet the questions at its heart remain eternal: What does it mean to be changed? Can faith actually transform the human soul? This book offers a window into one tradition's passionate attempt to answer them.
