Biographies, History - American

In the dying days of the Old West, when the railroads were stretching steel spines across a broken nation, one man declared war on the system that had failed him. Rube Burrow rose from the red clay of Lamar County, Alabama, a post-Civil War landscape of bankrupt farms, unemployed Confederate soldiers, and a justice system that served only the wealthy. With his brother Jim at his side, Burrow orchestrated eight daring train robberies over four years, becoming either a folk hero or a monster depending on who told the story. George W. Agee wrote this account in 1890, while the wounds were still fresh and the smoke hadn't settled. He claimed truth; we claim ambiguity. What survives is a window into an America where the line between outlaw and angel was blurry as desert heat, where a man could rob a train and ride into legend, and where the real violence was never just the bullets, it's what drove a man to pick up the gun in the first place. For readers who crave the raw, unvarnished mythology of the American frontier.
