Reinaart de Vos
Reinaart de Vos, an epic animal poem written in Middle Dutch in the 13th century, is a significant work in Dutch medieval literature. The narrative follows the cunning exploits of Reinaert the Fox, who outsmarts various characters. This 1885 translation by Julius de Geyter includes only the first book of the original, which was composed around 1250 by an unknown author, while the second book, written approximately 150 years later, lacks the same artistic merit. The poem is notable for its rich storytelling and character development, reflecting the complexities of human nature through animal allegory.
