Early edition (first, 1691) of this biography of a Farnese princess-turned-nun, with a portrait engraved for the work by Isabella Piccini, a Franciscan nun working in Venice. Teresa-Margherita proudly spurned the advances of all suitors including Louis XIV and Charles II of England, declaring that if she were to marry, the choice would be hers alone. Instead, she became a Discalced Carmelite nun. This biography has been seen as an attempt to revive the flagging fortunes of the Farnese in Parma; but as the power of the family waned in the 18th C, the campaign for Suor Teresa’s beatification lost steam and was ultimately unsuccessful.
