Pro Judaeis: Riflessioni E Documenti

A historical account written in the late 19th century. The work focuses on the emerging antisemitism in Europe, particularly in the wake of the perceived failures of the Enlightenment and the French Revolution to eradicate religious intolerance. The author appears to argue in defense of the Jewish community, highlighting their contributions to society while addressing the unjust prejudices they face. At the start of the text, Guidetti introduces the troubling trend of rising antisemitism in various European nations. He critiques the hypocrisy of societies that proclaim equality yet harbor biases against the Jewish people, suggesting that animosity stems from a mixture of religious fervor and social envy, particularly regarding wealth. The opening outlines historical patterns of persecution and argues that antisemitic sentiments are fueled by misunderstanding and fear, ultimately calling for a recognition of the shared humanity and rights of Jews in contemporary society.
