Prior Analytics

Prior Analytics

Aristotle

Before there were computers, before there were algorithms, there was Aristotle dissecting the very structure of human reasoning. Prior Analytics is the work where a genius turned the act of thinking into an object of study, and in doing so invented formal logic itself. Aristotle asks a deceptively simple question: what makes an argument valid? Not persuasive, not emotionally compelling, but logically air-tight. His answer was the syllogism - a three-step structure of premises leading to conclusion - and he spent this treatise systematically mapping every valid form and exposing every invalid one. This is not casual reading. It is dense, rigorous, and demands patience. But it is also the origin story of every logical system humans have built since: every proof, every algorithm, every courtroom deduction traces its lineage to these pages. Two thousand three hundred years later, Aristotle's framework still structures how we separate sound reasoning from rhetorical flourish.
