Poetry

Mina Loy, a quintessential Modernist polymath, channeled her restless intellect and unconventional life into poetry that challenged the norms of her time. From her early encounters with Gertrude Stein and the Italian Futurists in Florence to her immersion in the New York avant-garde alongside William Carlos Williams and Marianne Moore, Loy’s work is a vibrant tapestry woven from her experiences. This collection gathers her public domain poems, presented chronologically, offering a comprehensive look at a singular voice who dared to tackle themes of sexuality and feminism with a frankness that was both groundbreaking and, for a time, critically overlooked. Loy's poetry is a masterclass in Modernist innovation, brimming with sharp wit, formal audacity, and a fierce independence of spirit. Her verse, often elliptical and richly allusive, dissects the complexities of gender, desire, and artistic identity with an unflinching gaze. Rediscovered and celebrated in recent decades, Loy's work resonates powerfully today, not just as a historical artifact of the Modernist era, but as a vital, prescient exploration of the female experience and the enduring power of radical self-expression.
