Poems Recorded in Deptford and Greenwich
Poetry doesn't happen in a void. This collection proves it. Recorded on location in Deptford and Greenwich - in the churchyard of St Nicholas' and beneath the Thames in the Greenwich Foot Tunnel - these poems carry the echo of their surroundings. The wind through the trees, the particular acoustics of stone and water, the hum of a world passing aboveground: it all becomes part of the reading. The project captures something audiobooks usually strip away: the fact that poetry was always meant to be heard in place, spoken aloud, let loose into air. Spanning the English verse tradition from medieval to modern, each poem was chosen for its resonance with these historic waterside neighborhoods. This isn't studio-polished perfection. It's voices in spaces, words meeting their birthplace.
