Peter and Polly in Winter

Peter and his older sister Polly live in a white house at the edge of fields and woods, where winter arrives like a gift. Peter awaits the first snow with breathless anticipation, calling each flake a "white butterfly" as the Story Lady encourages their wonder. Together the siblings sled down icy hills, learn to skate on frozen ponds, and build snowmen while their father teaches them about birds in winter and the science of ice. Their mother and father guide them with gentle wisdom, and the children's love for nature and animals threads through every page. This is a book that captures something eternal: the way a single season can feel like an entire world when you're young. For readers who remember building snow forts in the early dark, or who are just discovering that winter can be magic.
