Our Little Jewish Cousin

This charming period piece transports young readers to the streets of Jerusalem at the turn of the twentieth century. Through the eyes of siblings Esther and Solomon, children encounter a world of ancient traditions made vivid through daily life: the rhythms of Sabbath, the significance of Passover, the weight of history in every stone of the Holy City. The book pulses with a particular kind of longing - the hope that the Jewish people might one day return to their ancestral homeland and worship freely. While the prose carries the didactic tone typical of early 20th-century children's literature, there's genuine warmth in how Wade renders family life, the communal grief at the Western Wall, and the resilience that sustained a people across centuries of diaspora. For modern young readers, it offers a window into a pivotal historical moment while celebrating the customs and community that kept Jewish identity alive.
